A fire broke out at the house of Veerakumar at Palathurai near Madukkarai in Coimbatore in which consumer items such as TV, fridge, and jewellery were gutted.
Coimbatore: A fire broke out at a house near Madukkarai when the owners of the house were away on a padayatra to Palani with their family members.
Veerakumar (34) hails from Palathurai near Madukkarai and he works as a labourer. It is learnt that he had gone on a padayatra to Palani with his family the day before yesterday.
When he reached Pollachi, his neighbour Rajendran, called him on his mobile phone and informed him that a fire had broken out inside the house.
He also informed the fire department, who rushed to the spot and put out the fire.
Household items including a TV and 4.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery and various documents were destroyed in the fire.
Madukkarai police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are investigating.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the family members had lit a lamp at their house before going on a padayatra to Palani. It is suspected that the fire could have been caused by the lamp.
