Wild boars damage banana grove near Kinathukadavu, farmers seek protection

Farmers in Kothavadi area near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore are in distress as wild boars are entering their fields in droves at night, damaging banana crops.



Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, wild boars entered the fields near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district and damaged banana crops.

Farmers in Kothavadi village near Kinathukadavu cultivate tomatoes, tapioca and bananas.



Sivasamy, a resident of Kothavadi East, has cultivated Nendram variety of banana on an acre of land.



When the Banana crop is matured and five months old, wild boars entered the banana grove at night and damaged the banana stalks.

“Banana growers have been severely affected due to crop raiding of wild boars” say the farmers.



The affected farmers have demanded that the Forest department should take immediate steps to prevent wild boars from crop raiding the cultivable lands.
