The new diesel engine designed for Nilgiri Mountain Railway was flagged off by the Railway General Manager of R. N. Singh and Salem Divisional Railway Divisional Manager Goutham Srinivas flagged off at Mettupalayam station.
The Nilgiris: Southern Railway General Manager R N Singh inspected the railway stations at Salem, Palakkad and Tirupur and later visited Mettupalayam railway station, where a reception was accorded to him by Salem Railway Divisional Manager Goutham Srinivas and senior railway officials.
Later, Southern Railway General Manager R.N. Singh also inspected the foot bridge constructed in the railway station premises.
Following this, he also inaugurated the newly constructed Brakeman restroom at the Mettupalayam railway station.
Subsequently, the GM flagged off the remodelled diesel engine by the Coonoor workshop, which was converted into a diesel engine from a furnace oil engine, which was manufactured at the Ponmalai workshop. This engine was introduced on the Mettupalayam-Ooty section of NMR.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Harikrishna and top officials of the Railways were present on the occasion.
Later, Southern Railway General Manager R N Singh and top officials then left for Ooty from Mettupalayam in the hill train.
On their way, they carried out inspection work at railway stations on the hilly route at Kallar, Hill Grove and Coonoor.
