A lone elephant was trying to enter the residential area from the nearby forest area near Puthuthottam. However, Forest officials arrived on the spot and chased it back into deep forests.
Coimbatore: A wild elephant, which was trying to enter a residential area near Valparai in Coimbatore district, was chased back into the forest area by the forest department officials.
The movement of wild elephants in the estate areas around Valparai has been increasing continuously for the past few months.
Wild elephants are roaming around in herds, with their cubs and sometimes all alone.
Elephants, which enter residential areas often demolish houses and damage banana crops and jack trees.
There is fear among the people of the area as such incidents are happening frequently.
In this situation, an elephant tried to enter the residential area through a tea estate near Puthuthottam this morning. Seeing this, the people of the area immediately informed the forest department.
Based on this, the forest department reached the spot and chased the lone elephant back into the forest area through the tea garden.
People have also demanded that the forest department should take appropriate steps to prevent wild animal incursion into residential areas, which has been increasing day by day.
