Police up vigilance on 25th-anniversary Coimbatore bomb blasts, 3000 policemen deployed for security duty

As many as 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across the Coimbatore district for security duty on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the 1998 serial blasts said City police commissioner K Balakrishnan.



Coimbatore: More than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed at important places, including the railway stations and bus stand ahead of the 25th anniversary of the infamous 1998 Coimbatore serial bomb blasts.

On February 14, 1998, a series of bomb blasts took place in Coimbatore, 58 people were killed and more than 2050 people were injured.

The 25th anniversary of the Coimbatore blasts will be observed on February 14.



Due to this, security arrangements have been strengthened in the district, where people gather in large numbers.



Screenings of the belongings of all passengers arriving at the railway stations are followed by metal detector scanning.

According to City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan “3,000 personnel, including two DIG, four Superintendents of Police, 18 Assistant Commissioners of Police and 225 Commando policemen, are on duty across Coimbatore district to prevent any untoward incidents”.
