Police shoot two accused in Coimbatore Gopalapuram youth murder to prevent their escape near Mettupalayam

Coimbatore: The police had to resort to shooting two of the arrested youth involved in a broad daylight murder of a youth at Gopalapuram in Coimbatore when they tried to flee after attacking a policeman when being brought to Coimbatore from Kotagiri.



Coimbatore: Coimbatore Police shot two of the accused involved in the murder of a youth in broad daylight in Gopalapuram near Coimbatore. The duo were trying to escape while being brought from Kotagiri to Coimbatore.



Gokul of Keeranatham and Manoj of Sivanandapuram area were attacked by miscreants at the Coimbatore Court premises on Monday, but hte miscreants managed to escape.



Gokul sustained serious injuries on his neck and died on the spot while Manoj who was also injured was admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital with bruises and cuts on his hand and head.



The incident, which took place in broad daylight, created quite a stir in Gopalapuram and the police registered a case in this regard. A special police team was formed to nab the culprits using the aid of CCTV footage.



In this case, seven of the accused including Joshua Devapriyan, Gautham, Arun Kumar, Bharani and Hari who were part of the absconding gang were nabbed by the police under the leadership of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, Prabhakar during a vehicle check near Kotagiri and arrested.

While the police were taking the arrested persons to Coimbatore from Kotagiri, Joshua and Gautham reportedly asked to answer nature's call while nearing Mettupalayam. When the police stopped the vehicle, the two are said to have got down and tried to escape after lashing at Constable Yousuf with a knife.



Policemen immediately shot both Joshua and Gautham in their legs, to prevent their escape.



The injured constable Yusuf, and both the accused - Joshua and Gautham - were admitted to the Mettupalayam Hospital for treatment and then later shifted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.
