Art Teachers' Welfare Association condemns charging of Rs.10 for short-film screening in Government – run schools

The charging of fee Rs 10 each from students for to watch a short film ' Naalai Namathe' on Government school premises has raised the hackles of many.

Coimbaore: About 11 government higher secondary schools in Coimbatore district are charging Rs 10 each from students for the screening of the short film ' Naalai Namathe' tomorrow.

The Art Teachers' Welfare Association has condemned this and said in a statement “At a time when the Government is providing welfare measures including free books, and uniforms for the benefit of students a short film titled 'Naalai Namathe' is being screened at 11 government higher secondary schools in the district by some technicians from Dindigul district.

The film is being screened at an open auditorium in schools where there is no auditorium facility. It is painful to note that Rs.10 is collected from every student for this purpose”.

The state president of the association said” Due to glaring light the film will not be watchable. At the beginning of the film, the national anthem is played on the screen, showing the national flag”.

The short film "Naalai Namathe" is an hour-long film and the story revolves around a woman who is pregnant and dies after begetting twin girls. How a teacher raises the two children and makes them come up in life by becoming officers is the crux of the film.

In the meanwhile, the Art Teachers' Association also regretted the fact that Chief Education Officer also turned a blind eye to it.
