Three- Tier security blanket put in place for President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to the city; over 6,900 policemen deployed

A heavy police security blanket has been put in place and over 6,900 police personnel have been deployed across Coimbatore district for security duty in view of President Draupadi Murmu's visit to the city.


Coimbatore: A three-tier security blanket has been put in place in view of President Droupadi Murmu's visit to the city to take part in the Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Yoga Centre.

The Festival of Maha Shivaratri is celebrated every year at the Isha Yoga Center and this year's Maha Shivratri festival will be held today.

Maha Shivratri will be celebrated in front of the Adiyogi statue from 6 pm (Saturday) to 6 am (Sunday).at the Isha Yoga Centre.

The event will be marked by Panchabhuta Aradhana at the Dhyanalinga, Maha Yatra of Goddess Linga Bhairavi, Meditations, Music and Dance performances by traditional artists which will be performed at dawn.

President Draupadi Murmu will be the Chief Guest at this Maha Shivratri festival.

The President will arrive by a charted IAF plane from Delhi on November 18 by 3 pm and proceed to the Government Guest House at Race Course before proceeding to Yoga Center via Vadavalli and Thondamuthur by road by 6 pm.

After attending the Maha Shivaratri festival at night, she will reach the Government Guest House at Race Course for an overnight stay at about 9.30 pm.

She will proceed to Coimbatore airport tomorrow morning and from there she will take a chopper to the Wellington Defense service staff college in Coonoor.

Coimbatore City and District Police have put in place tight security arrangements for the visit and routes which the President will take have been planned and a security drill was performed.

A total of 2,772 police personnel, including 8 SP, 36 ADSPs and DSPs, 100 inspectors and 250 sub-inspectors, led by Commissioner of Police Balakrishnan, are on duty in the city alone.

Similarly, in the case of the suburbs, 4,200 police personnel, including 1 IG, 2 DIG, 9 SP and 110 inspectors, are on duty.

Other district police have also been called in for security duty and a three-tier security has been put in place and patrolling is underway.
