Lone Makhna elephant strikes back to same camping zone near Madukkarai

With the public and other residents barging into the zone, the elephant once again returned to the initial camping zone at Milekal. This has heightened the tense situation and further measures to drive it into the woods overnight are underway.

Coimbatore: After a long day's wait, the Makhna elephant was drawn from the camping zone towards the intended route near Kuniyamuthur, around 7.30 p.m through collaborative monitoring by forest officials and NGO volunteers.

But with the public and other residents barging into the zone, the elephant once again returned to the initial camping zone at Milekal. This has heightened the tense situation and further measures to drive it into the woods overnight are underway.

Earlier this evening, the Forest Department officials fled drone cameras to track down the location of the elephant and to monitor its movement.

The team of forest officials intend to drive it through the roads of the Madukkarai range back to Pollachi. Tranquillizers were prepared under the supervision of Dr. Sugumaran, a veterinarian, which will be utilized in case of a mishap. But on the other hand, to shoot down the prepared injection requires several protocols and authorisation from State Head Quarters, Chennai.
