Murugan along with 10 of his friends from his village, had come to Poondi to climb Velliangiri hills and started his uphill journey by early morning.
Coimbatore: Murugan, a devotee from Tirunelveli, who climbed the Vellingiri hills collapsed due to exhaustion when he was climbing the second Vazhukal hill.
Murugan (60) is a native of Pathamadai in Tirunelveli district. He was married but had no children, He got separated from his wife and had been living in the care of his nephew Mahalakshmi for the past 30 years and he worked a daily wager.
Murugan along with 10 of his friends from his village, had come to Poondi to climb Velliangiri hills and started his uphill journey by early morning. But, as he crossed the first mountain and went on to the second slippery elevation he suddenly developed shortness of breath and soon fainted and died.
The Forest Department made arrangements to bring the body to the foothill and sent it for postmortem.
Alandurai police have registered a case and are investigating.
