Ensure the safety of migrant workers, MLA Vanathi Srinivasan urges govt

BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan said those who sow hatred against them should be arrested under the National Security Act. Coimbatore: Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan has demanded that those who sow hatred against workers from north India should be arrested under the National Security Act.

In a statement, she said, “It is a matter of great concern that workers from the northern states who are working in Tamil Nadu are returning to their native places due to the fear that they are not safe.

Our Constitution gives freedom to every citizen of India to work and live anywhere in India.

People from one state, moving to another state and working there and living there for generations have been going on in India for ages.

After becoming the national president of the BJP's women's wing, I have been touring the entire country.

I have visited all the states and union territories. Wherever I go, I meet Tamil people. Even in Lakshadweep, 400 kilometres from Cochin, I met Tamils.

When they saw me, they came running as if they had seen their own relationship and spoke kindly.

Tamils have a great role to play in the development and development of big cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Tamilselvan, who hails from Tamil Nadu in Maharashtra, is contesting on a BJP ticket and is an MLA.

Tamils have been councillors in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru municipal corporations. They still exist.

If that is the case, then we need to understand how many Tamils should have lived there and how long they should have lived there.

When I campaigned for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections last year, I met a large number of Tamils there.

It was learnt that all of them were descendants of those who had gone as labourers from parts of Tamil Nadu like Cuddalore, Salem and Villupuram when the city of Chandigarh was created.

No state in India is inhabited by people from that state alone. It didn't work. In all states, people from many states are also working. Today, every big city in India is a mini-India.

We are followers of the high civilization and culture of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', which means the world is one family and 'Yaadum Oore Yaavarum Kelir'. The people of Tamil Nadu do not see any difference.

Tamils are used to seeing everyone as brothers. But a few organisations, with the aim of dividing people for political gains, are sowing hatred against the workers from the northern states.

We have been insisting for many years that it should be nipped in the bud. None of the labourers from the northern states come to Tamil Nadu on their own.

Shop owners from Tamil Nadu, who run industries, are bringing in labourers from Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand and the north-eastern states through agents because they need people to work for them.

If there are no workers from the north, industries in Tamil Nadu will come to a standstill. Organisations such as the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which supports the DMK, have been saying that it will affect development.

The South Indian Spinning Mills Association (SIIMA) has expressed anguish that their business has been affected as workers from the north are leaving due to fear.

Addressing a public meeting on his birthday in Chennai on March 1, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said he was proud to have national politics.

The time has come to prove his speech. "India is one nation. 'This nation belongs to all' is the national politics.

Therefore, the Government of Tamil Nadu should take strict action against the organisations, its leaders and individuals who are sowing hatred against the workers of the North.

They should be arrested under stringent laws like the National Security Act.

It is the duty of the Government of Tamil Nadu to provide security to the workers who are working for the development of Tamil Nadu, whoever they may be. The Chief Minister should ensure that.” She said in a statement.

It is to be noted that TN police has booked editor of Dainik Bhaskar, Mohammed Tanvir and BJP spokesperson Prashant Umrao for spreading fake news about migrant workers on Twitter.
