Drinking water scarcity in Gudimangalam panchayat near Udumalpet - Minister Saminathan Inspects

In a review meeting chaired by Minister M.P Saminathan on the scarcity of drinking water in 23 panchayats under Gudimangalam union near Udumalpet, the public requested the minister to take steps to ensure proper supply of drinking water.


Tirupur: People complained to Minister M P Saminathan that drinking water was not being supplied properly near Udumalpet in Tirupur district.

As many as 23 panchayats, including Pethappampatti, Kongalnagaram, Moongiltholuvu, Anikkadavu, Iluppanagaram, Kottamangalam, Kurunjeri and Pukkulam in Gudimangalam panchayat union next to Udumalai, have not been able to supply drinking water properly for the past few weeks due to water scarcity.

In this situation, there have been protests from time to time demanding proper supply of drinking water in a few places.



In the meantime, a review meeting was held at Pethappampatti in Gudimangalam union in which the people of 23 villages of Gudimangalam panchayat participated in the development works.



In the review meeting chaired by Minister of Information and Publicity Saminathan, people from various panchayat areas said that there was no proper supply of drinking water in their panchayats and that water should be supplied properly.



A memorandum was submitted to the minister on behalf of the farmers' association alleging irregularities in the construction of check dams in Gudimangalam union and non-implementation of various development projects.



Speaking after this, Minister Saminathan said, while water has reportedly not been supplied properly for the past few weeks, a meeting was held today which was attended by water supply and drainage officials, Gudimangalam union officials and district officials. In this meeting, water should be supplied to the villagers properly.

It was instructed that the pending works should be completed at the earliest, he said.

Tirupur District Collector Vineeth, Gudimangalam Water Supply and Drainage Board officials, Gudimangalam Revenue Department officials and others participated in the review meeting.
