Coimbatore: Police arrested Palaninathan, an ex-serviceman for snatching an eight sovereign gold chain from a woman Radhamani near Veerapandi pirivu.
According to police, the woman was travelling on the pillion of a two-wheeler with her son in Veerapandi pirivu area when bike- borne miscreants snatched her chain.
Radhamani, a resident of Jyothipuram in Veerapandi pirivu, was on her way to a private hospital with her son in a two-wheeler on Mettupalayam road, when the duo riding a two-wheeler snatched the 8-sovereign Thali chain from Radhamani.
Radhamani's son, however, gave chase to the duo and caught them with the help of the members of the public. However, one of them escaped with the snatched “Thali” chain.
During Police interrogation, the police found that the arrested person is Palaninathan (43), a native of Ramanathapuram district and an ex-serviceman. It was also revealed that he was suspended seven years ago from the armed forces.
They are also on the lookout for the second person, Murugananthan, who escaped with the chain.
The police have registered a case against him and are investigating.
The arrested man was remanded in custody.
