Massive fire breaks out at private plastic godown near Coimbatore

A major fire broke out in a godown for grading old plastics in Podanur area of Coimbatore. There were no casualties as there was no one inside when the fire broke out.

Coimbatore: Saleem is a native of Coimbatore sugarcane shop area. He owns a godown separating old plastic items, furniture and copper wires on an empty plot of land near Mettur Saibaba Temple near Podanur.

It appears that the copper wires in the wire in the godown were set on fire last night to separate them. The fire spread to the nearby plastic items and wooden objects and the entire godown caught fire and started burning.

Following this, the people present immediately informed the fire department. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and fought for a long time to bring the fire under control. By then, goods worth lakhs of rupees in the godown had been destroyed in the fire.

No casualties have been avoided as there was no one inside when the fire broke out. However, the people of the area suffered as the plastic waste was burnt in the fire and smoke emanated from the entire area with a foul smell.
