The temple authorities and the public have demanded that appropriate action be taken against individuals who have encroached upon the land of the famous Venkatapathi Perumal temple at Nalamoola Chungam near Pollachi.
Coimbatore: Venkatapathi Perumal temple is situated in the Nalamoola Chungam area of Pollachi Kottur Road, where the Viswakarma community worships since it is their family deity. People from different districts of Tamil Nadu visit this ancient temple.
The route leading to the temple and the Palar river bank waterway near the temple have been encroached upon by private garden owners who have marked out a route on the land that obstructs devotees from going to the temple.
Since no action has been taken despite complaining to authorities, a consultative meeting was held in which temple authorities and the general public participated. At the meeting it was discussed that two-and-a-half acres of land belonging to the temple has been encroached upon by nearby private gardeners.
"Moreover, they are encroaching on the waterway and causing disturbance. Despite complaining to the authorities, no action was taken thus far. Hence, if the authorities do not take immediate action against the encroachers, protests will be held in the area," warned the temple authorities.
