AIADMK cadres celebrated the election of Edappadi K Palaniswami as the General secretary of the party by bursting crackers and distributing sweets in the city.

Coimbatore: Following the Madras High Court's verdict that the resolutions passed at the AIADMK general council meeting held on July 11 would be legally valid, the AIADMK has announced the election of Edappadi K Palaniswami as the party’s General secretary.

AIADMK cadres celebrated the election of Edappadi K Palaniswami as the general secretary of the party by bursting crackers and distributing sweets in the city.

Earlier, a petition was filed in the Madras High Court on behalf of OPS faction seeking to declare the resolutions at the AIADMK general council meeting as invalid. The Madras High Court today ruled that the resolutions passed at the general body meeting are valid.

As the results of the AIADMK general secretary's election was kept in abeyance without being announced as per the court order, it has been announced now.

More than 100 cadres led by former Mayor S M Velusamy took out a procession from Idhaya Deivam Maligai, the AIADMK headquarters in the city, and garlanded the statues of Anna, MGR and Jayalalitha in the Anna statue area.

Sweets were also distributed to the public in front of Idhaya Deivam Maligai and slogans shouted “Edappaadiyaar vaazhga, varungaala mutalamaichar edappaadiyaar vazhga”.

Speaking to the media, S.M. Velusamy said,” I thank the Goddess of Justice. Today's verdict has been delivered to teach a lesson to the traitors who were trying to destroy this movement.

“Moreover, if the OPS faction files an appeal, the workers would get agitated” he said.
