The work for the construction of four-lane high-level flyovers from Uppilipalayam to Chinniyampalayam on Coimbatore-Avinashi road at a cost of about Rs 1,610 crore is progressing at a fast pace. With the work coming to the area, it is now time to remove the foot overbridge near PSG College in Peelamedu.

Coimbatore: The authorities have decided to remove the foot overbridge near the college on the Peelamedu-Avinashi road.

The work for the construction of four-lane high-level flyovers from Uppilipalayam to Chinniyampalayam on the Coimbatore-Avinashi road at a cost of around Rs 1,610 crore is progressing at a fast pace.

This includes connecting PSG College at Peelamedu on both sides and allowing students to walk on foot. The foot overbridge was constructed across Avinashi Road a few years ago. Not only students but also the general public were benefitted by this bridge.

In this situation, the construction of a high level flyover on Avinashi Road is in full swing. The highways department had planned to remove this foot overbridge.

Accordingly, the pillars were erected near the flyover. So now the foot overbridge is being removed for the construction of the runway. This foot overbridge was also a symbol of Coimbatore Peelamedu.

This has benefitted a large number of college students and the general public. Now that the foot overbridge has been removed, a large number of people are taking photographs standing in front of it.

College students said about the removal of the flyover, instead of going across the road to go from one side of the college to the other, we went straight to the college's classes on the footpath.

It was our symbol. It is very painful for us to remove it now," they said.
