Tamil Nadu road transport workers gheraoed and protested against increase in fees at the Kaniyur tollgate

Coimbatore: CITU-affiliated Tamil Nadu State Transport Employees Federation had announced that it will blockade the tollgate in the next phase if the central government does not take action.

Tamil Nadu road transport workers surrounded the tollgate and protested against the increase in customs fees at the Kaniyur tollgate on the outskirts of Coimbatore. If no action is taken, the labour unions voiced that they will block the tollgate and stage a protest as the next step.

Coimbatore District Sulur Kaniyur tollgate price hike to come into action from midnight April 1st. In this regard, 45 toll gates are functioning in Tamil Nadu. The central government has announced a 10 to 30 per cent toll hike from 1st April, meanwhile, the petrol, diesel, road tax, and spare parts products are already on the rise.

All the unions working in road transport protested across Tamil Nadu.



More than 50 people of the Coimbatore District CITU-affiliated Tamil Nadu State Transport Employees Federation blocked the tollgate and staged a protest. They raised slogans condemning the central government's taxation procedures and nudged immediate actions for the reduction of price hike.

Speaking to the media, Krishnamurthy, district secretary of CITU, Coimbatore, said that the central government is continuously increasing toll fees, due to which all the motorists and other business people are suffering. We demand that the government consider the concerns of the people and implement plans accordingly to benefit the public.
