Buyback of used liquor bottles from TASMAC implemented in Coimbatore

A scheme to buyback empty liquor bottles from TASMAC shops in Coimbatore district has come into effect from Saturday. Environmentalists have said that the plan to withdraw liquor bottles is welcome.

Coimbatore: A scheme to buyback empty liquor bottles from TASMAC shops in Coimbatore district has come into effect from Saturday.

The Madras High Court has directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to implement a grand plan to bring back TASMAC liquor bottles in the Nilgiris district in view of the damage caused to the natural environment and wildlife due to liquor bottles being dumped in public places.

The court directed that while the scheme has been implemented in the Nilgiris district, the scheme of withdrawing empty liquor bottles should also be implemented in other districts as well.

In this situation, a massive plan has been implemented in Coimbatore district to return the empty liquor bottles from Saturday, April 1.

Accordingly, from Saturday onwards, an additional Rs 10 will be charged for the liquor bottles sold in the liquor shops and the sticker will be pasted on the liquor bottle itself. Empty liquor bottles can be returned to TASMAC shops and rs 10 can be withdrawn.

Liquor lovers in Pollachi and Valparai areas are returning empty liquor bottles with stickers pasted on them to TASMAC shops and withdrawing Rs 10.

Speaking about the project, Saddam of the Environment Organisation said, Coimbatore district has a large number of tourist spots. Especially in Pollachi, Valparai, Aliyar and Topsilip areas, tourists come in large numbers.

Since all these tourist spots are dependent on forest areas, wildlife is found in large numbers. Even though adequate awareness has been given to the tourists by the forest department, the tourists are ignoring them and throwing liquor bottles in the forest areas.

Due to this, elephants and other wild animals are at great risk of death due to liquor bottles. Now with the plan to withdraw liquor bottles, tourists are likely to come to other places without throwing them away. The plan to repeat the bottles is welcome.
