Jallikattu will be held at Alagumalai near Palladam in Tirupur district tomorrow. While preparations for the same are in full swing, the youths have complained that tokens are being given only to party functionaries and not given tokens to local cows.
Tirupur: Jallikattu is an annual Pongal celebration celebrated in Alagumalai village near Palladam in Tirupur district.
The jallikattu competition, which was scheduled to be held on the occasion of Pongal this year, was postponed due to protests by the villagers of the area.
In this case, despite objections from the people, a segment of Alagumalai village filed a petition in the Madras High Court three times against jallikattu by Alagumalai panchayat president Thooyamani, but the judges dismissed the case each time. Jallikattu will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) after the High Court granted permission.
The event would feature a huge number of bull tamers from several districts, including Salem, Trichy, Karur, Namakkal, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Kallakurichi. Likewise, cows from several areas will take part. So far, tokens have been issued to 560 bull tamers. Tokens have been issued to 650 bulls.
The work of setting up a vadivasal for jallikattu is in full swing. The organisers are working hard to make this happen.
The Tirupur district police have also stepped up security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident in the wake of protests by the villagers. Thousands of police personnel will be deployed for security duty tomorrow, the police said.
Work is also underway to set up platforms for visitors, emergency relief rooms and police control rooms. Information Minister Swaminathan and Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Kayalvizhi Selvaraj will inaugurate the jallikattu event. Tirupur District Collector, District Superintendent of Police and legislators will be the special guests for the jallikattu event.
In this situation, the local youths have alleged that the Jallikattu parishad has given tokens to party leaders who are supposed to be given to the bulls instead of giving tokens only to the bull tamers.
Apart from this, the cow herders have also alleged that tokens have been issued to the bulls in Madurai area and that they have not given tokens to the local bulls and if you ask the people in the Jallikattu council about it, they are dragging it to today and tomorrow. They have also warned that they will show black flags with bulls tomorrow if tokens are not issued to the local cows.
