Traffic diversions come into effect in Nilgiris from April 26 ahead of Ooty summer season

Traffic in the Nilgiris district will be diverted from April 26 in view of the summer season in Ooty, with the Coonoor-Burliar Road and Kotagiri Road being converted into one-way routes. Heavy vehicles have also been banned from moving around in Ooty during the day.


The Nilgiris: The district administration has announced that traffic has been diverted in the Nilgiris ahead of the summer season.

Thousands of tourists have begun flocking to Ooty in the Nilgiris district as summer season has kick-started. A meeting was held at the new District Collector's office in Ooty with regard to regulating traffic and providing basic amenities in the district.



Nilgiris District Collector S P Amrith, Superintendent of Police Prabhakar and other senior officials along with members from the Vehicle Drivers Association, Hotel Owners Association, office bearers of the Restaurant Association were present.



The meeting deliberated on the preparations for the summer season, after which it was decided to divert traffic on major roads in the Nilgiris district from April May 26 onwards till the end of May.



It has been decided to make the Ooty-Coonoor-Mettupalayam route ad the Ooty-Kotagiri-Mettupalayam route into one-way routes till the end of the summer season. Following this, all vehicles going from Ooty to Mettupalayam will be allowed to pass only through Kotagiri and vehicles coming up from Mettupalayam to Ooty will be allowed on the Buriar-Coonoor route.

Heavy vehicles have also been banned from entering Ooty town from 7 am to 9 pm, with parking facilities provided at Kandhal and Aavin grounds for the summer season. Special buses have also been pressed into service for tourists to visit various tourist spots from the grounds.
