Police have arrested a woman named Gauthami, a native of Thoothukudi district, for allegedly stealing chains from three women at Kottur near Pollachi. 13 sovereigns of jewellery was seized from her.
Coimbatore: The temple festival was held last month at Kottur near Pollachi. At that time, a large number of devotees from the surrounding villages participated and had darshan of the deity.
Some people took advantage of this crowd to indulge in jewellery snatching. Palaniammal Sivabhagyam and Thulasi Ammal, both residents of Kottur, were robbed of 13 sovereigns of gold jewellery by an unidentified person using the crowd.
The police registered a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victims at the police station and formed a special team on the orders of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Badri Narayanan and launched a search for the culprits.
Gauthami (36), wife of Isakki, a native of Thoothukudi district, was involved in the serial robbery.
On further investigation, it was revealed that Gauthami was involved in several other theft crimes. Following this, the police seized 13 sovereigns of jewellery from Gauthami and arrested, then sent her to judicial custody.
