37 children vomit, faint after consuming nutritious meal in Valparai - DMK district secretary investigates health

As many as 37 children of Valparai Panchayat Union Primary School in Coimbatore district are undergoing treatment at a hospital after they complained of vomiting and fainting after consuming the mid-day meal served yesterday afternoon. DMK district secretary Thalapathy Murugesan met the students this morning and enquired about their well-being.



Coimbatore: After consuming a mid-day meal, 37 children from a panchayat union primary school in Valparai started vomiting and fainting.

Panchayat Union Primary School is functioning at Valparai in Coimbatore District. Noon meal was served in this school yesterday afternoon. More than 37 children reportedly developed vomiting, fainting and headaches after consuming nutritious food at the time.



As a result, they were all admitted to the Valparai Government Hospital. Last evening, 29 children were cured and taken home after the treatment.

Only eight children were being treated at the hospital at night.



Meanwhile, DMK district secretary Thalapathy Murugesan paid a visit to the hospitalised youngsters this morning and inquired about their condition.



He enquired with the doctors about the students' treatment as well as the hospital's needs and requests. Coimbatore district in-charge minister Senthil Balaji will be informed in this regard and action will be taken.



Thalapathy Murugesan then inspected the panchayat union elementary school.



Visiting the boathouse, which has not been opened to public use for a long time, he assured that he would talk to the minister to open the boat house as soon as possible and urge the minister to hold the summer festival this year.

Chief executive member Amudhabharathi, general committee member Raghu Durairaj, union councillor, city secretary Sudhakar, district deputy secretary Ponnusamy, town deputy secretary Saravana Pandian, district representative Tanzin, town council vice-president Senthil, city treasurer Ambigai Subbaiah, 4th ward town council member Bhaskar, youth wing Sabari Krishnan and others were present on the occasion.
