Two arrested for threatening college students, robbing them of mobile phones, cash

Police have arrested two persons on the basis of a complaint that the burglars barged into the house of the students of a private college in Periyar Nagar area near Puliyakulam in Coimbatore in the middle of the night and threatened them with knives and snatched their mobile phones and cash.


Coimbatore: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly threatening college students and robbing them of mobile phones and cash near Puliyankulam in Maudadam in Coimbatore.

The students studying in a private college in Periyar Nagar area of Puliyakulam in Coimbatore are staying at home.

At around 2 am last week, miscreants rang the calling bell and called the students to their house.

As soon as the students opened the door on hearing the noise, the miscreants who were waiting outside the door threatened them with a knife and entered the house.

Five mobile phones and Rs 500 in cash were allegedly snatched from the spot and fled the spot.

The students rushed to Ramanathapuram police station and lodged a complaint in this regard.

Based on the complaint, the police, led by inspector Prabha Devi, acted swiftly within an hour of filing the complaint and arrested one Jeyaraj.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that Jayaraj, the dacoit, had been working in a two-wheeler finance company for quite some time now.

The police have also confiscated three cellphones and a weapon from Jayaraj and are looking for the other two robbers.

The police have also arrested Vigneshwaran, who is absconding, they said.
