Illegal mixing of industrial effluent sludge in Ukkadam sewage tank - Rs 50,000 fine imposed

Municipal Corporation Commissioner Prathap levied a Rs 50,000 fine on the owner of a sewage vehicle for illegally bringing the factory's toxic waste water into the Ukkadam sewage treatment tank and unloading it.


Coimbatore:The Corporation Commissioner fined a person Rs 50,000 for mixing industrial effluent sludge without permission in the Ukkadam sewage tank in Coimbatore.

In Ward No. 86 of Coimbatore South Zone, waste water is collected in a vehicle from households in ukkadam non-sewerage (UGD) zones and disposed at a corporation waste water dumping station before being processed and discharged as clean water at Ukkadam STP.

A fine of Rs 50,000 has been imposed on palaniswami, the owner of the vehicle, for obstructing him from working.

A case has been registered by the police and action is being taken as per law.

In future, if the toxic waste water from industries and other commercial establishments is brought to the ukkadam area and unloaded, they will be fined and action will be taken as per law.

This was stated by the Municipal Corporation Commissioner in his report.
