Inaugurating the seminar held at Mulanur near Pollachi, Minister Saminathan said, after distributing manuals to the farmers on pest and disease control in coconut trees, he said that appropriate steps have been taken to control the disease attack in coconut trees.
Coimbatore: M P Saminathan, Minister of Information and Broadcasting in Tamil Nadu, has stated that steps have been taken to control the spread of diseases in coconut trees.
The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University hosted a lecture on coconut disease and pest attack control, as well as fertiliser management, in Mulanur village near Pollachi.
The seminar was started by Tamil Development and Information Minister M P Saminathan, who was presided over by Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati. He later issued handbooks to farmers on how to control insect and disease attacks on coconut trees.
Professors and scientists of coconut research institute who participated in the seminar participated and gave suggestions to the farmers along with demonstrations on controlling pest attack and disease attack on coconut trees.
Later speaking to reporters, Minister Saminathan said,
In the Kongu region, due to shortage of labourers, increase in wages and inadequate prices, there is an unaffordable situation in short-term crop cultivation.
Therefore, a seminar is being conducted to enhance the livelihood of the farmers through coconut cultivation. We will take necessary steps to eradicate pest attacks and wilt diseases in coconut cultivation and achieve the target. This is what Minister Saminathan said.
