Kummiattam group near Palladam demands permission for Kummiattam in government functions

The Kummi attam group urged that the Tamil Nadu government allow Kummi attam at government functions to revive the endangered Kongu country's traditional art form at the Kummi attamarangetram held in Iduvai village near Palladam in Tirupur district.

Tirupur: The Pavalakodi Kummi attam group demanded that the government allow the Kongu country's traditional art form, Kummiattam, to be performed at government functions.

The 42nd Gummiyata Arangetram ceremony of the Pavalakodi Gummi Attam troupe was held today at Iduvai village near Palladam.

More than 150 people, including women, children and men, in the same uniform, clapped their hands and cheered.

In the Mahabharata, the five Pandavas spent four hours singing songs about Arjuna's royal existence, his attachment to the people and the soil of the region where he governed, and his married life.

More than 150 persons dressed in the same attire performed a Kummi attam performance which attracted the audience.

The Kummi attam group also asked the government to include the Kummiattam in parades held at government functions such as Tamil Nadu's Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations in order to restore the kummi attam, which is on the verge of extinction, and to take it everywhere.

They encouraged the Tamil Nadu government to meet their demands so that the younger generation might be helped in carrying out this Kummiattam, since the art of Kummi attam aids in the rescue of youngsters from mobile phone apps and rejuvenates all parts of the body while clapping hands and dancing.
