Naam Tamilar Katchi gathers Coimbatore Collector office demanding complete prohibition

The women's wing of Naam Tamilar Katchi staged a protest in front of the Collectorate in Coimbatore demanding complete prohibition in Tamil Nadu. In this, the Naam Tamilar katchi staged a protest wearing empty liquor bottles as garlands and with a rope tied around their necks.



Coimbatore: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) organised a sit-in protest at the district collector's office, demanding that prohibition be fully implemented in Tamil Nadu.



The women's wing of Naam Tamilar Katchi protested in front of the Collectorate in Coimbatore, demanding total prohibition in Tamil Nadu. 



The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) used empty liquor bottles as garlands and tied a rope around their necks during the protest. 



They also submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector after obtaining signatures against the statewide liquor ban.



In their petition, they said,

In the last half-century, even though prohibition has been relaxed in Tamil Nadu, the government has been continuously running the sale of liquor through the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). Through this, the Government of Tamil Nadu is complicit in various kinds of crimes.

TASMAC is causing huge havoc in the society and the normal life of many families. Women are exposed to domestic violence, financial instability and all kinds of degradation. Road accidents are on the rise due to drunken driving.

TASMAC shops are located in major parts of the city, causing a lot of inconvenience to school and college students and the general public.

The government should take responsibility for the TASMAC degradation so far and implement a complete ban on liquor immediately.

We also urge the Government to come forward to provide appropriate guidelines and relief to the families and women affected by alcohol so far.
