oimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 14-year-old boy drowned in a pit dug illegally near Thadagam in Coimbatore.

Wild animals and mineral resources are being affected by illegal trenches dug to make bricks in violation of government orders in and around Thadagam. Meanwhile, the High Court has ordered the closure of brick kilns that were operating illegally in and around Thadagam.

In the meantime, the NGT has also ordered to cover the pits dug there with red soil. In this case, the pit dug in the land belonging to Sivakumar, a resident of No. 1 Naickenpalayam, had accumulated rainwater.

In this case, five school children from Santhimedu area took a bath in the rainwater in the pit and played. When everyone came out later, Haris (14), son of Velmurugan, allegedly tried to remove a log from the water.
