Ramesh, the ED's Special Counsel has stated that they were forced into a situation of arresting the Minister because he refused to receive summons to appear for questioning and sign the investigation documents.
Chennai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Special Counsel Ramesh has stated that since Minister Senthil Balaji refused to accept the summons from ED to appear before it and sign the investigation documents, he had to be arrested.
Clarifying the details of the arrest to media members, ED Special Counsel N Ramesh told reporters that Minister Senthil Balaji did not cooperate with the ED probe.
"He refused to receive a summons to appear for questioning and sign the interrogation documents, and hence the ED was forced to arrest Senthil Balaji for not cooperating with the authorities. However, Senthil Balaji started crying when he was told that he was going to be arrested. He rolled over on the ground and cried out saying he had chest pain. So, the authorities called him to the hospital for treatment. The doctors have conducted an examination and have said his health is in good condition.
Because he is afraid and nervous, his blood pressure is high. But on Thursday morning, the situation has changed and Senthil Balaji is being subjected to medical tests and has been told that he requires treatment. Following this, a team of doctors from the Central Government's ESI Hospital examined Senthil Balaji but have commented differently on his health.
When the judge questioned Senthil Balaji, he spoke normally but claimed that he was harassed by the ED officials. When the judge asked him, "Do you know in which case you have been arrested?" Senthil Balaji acknowledged that he knew and that the ED officials had issued summons."
