Coimbatore: On Thursday, Tamil Nadu Handloom and Textiles Minister R. Gandhi visited and inspected the Tamil Nadu Panchalay Kazhagam loom in the Sidco area of Coimbatore.

Following this, Minister Gandhi addressed the media, saying, "We came to Coimbatore to research the requirements and to increase production through airjet machines." Tamil Nadu Panchalay Kazhagam is preparing around 9 lakh metres of school uniform for school students using an air jet machine."

It was informed that steps are being taken to remove the old power looms and set up airjet machines. Now there are 12 airjet machines in Coimbatore and 12 more airjet machines are being set up. Airjet engines will be set up and the electricity required for that engine will be acquired from solar.

"Even if this project is implemented by taking a loan, they give a 25-year guarantee." If the new machine's production profit is paid for 5 years, the profit will be 15 years without the cost of electricity. This will allow this sector to become profitable in the future," he continued.

He stated that 12 of the Tamil Nadu government's 18 spinning mills had been closed down. Only six mills are in operation.

Tamil Nadu has 486 acres of land for 12 idle factories. The Sandhill mill has been closed for 20 years. It has 34 acres of land. Consultation is in progress on how to convert it into a mini textile park.

Tamil Nadu needs a total of 125 lakh bales of cotton. 15 lakh bales are produced here. All Cotton Corporation cotton comes from Godowns in the northern states, which has resulted in high expenses and demand to cancel the Cess tax imposed by the TN government. This was considered by the Chief Minister and immediately removed. But the price fixation of cotton is in the hands of the central government.

He emphasised potential expansion by mentioning a desire to establish a Tamil Nadu Cotton Corporation similar to Cotton Corporation India. Delays are caused byInadequate funds. Once it is established, cotton can be bought and stocked to keep the price under control.
