It is only when elections come that politicians know us - Film Stage Dancers' Association

Thanking the judges for ordering that obscene dances should not be performed in temples, the Film Stage Dancers' Association has alleged that when elections are held, only then those who pose as MGR, Kalaignar and others are visible in the eyes of political parties.

Coimbatore: The Film Stage Dancers' Association has alleged that political parties are only seen posing as MGR, Kalaignar and others when the elections are held.

They were speaking to reporters at a private auditorium in Coimbatore of the Tamil Nadu Film Theatre Dancers Association. The association's state president Ajith Raja spoke on the occasion.

“On behalf of our association, it was constantly urged not to perform obscene dances in temples. Meanwhile, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has announced that action will be taken against those found indulging in obscene acts in temples under the Atrocities against Women Act.

This is a happy judgment. We express our gratitude to those judges for that. Their profession will be only for six months in a year. For the next six months, there will be a livelihood based on the income generated from it. It is only when elections come that we see the political parties in the eye.

When elections come, we appear to be dressed up as MGR, Kalaignar and others. Apart from that, we have not been given any recognition on behalf of the government and no welfare board has been constituted.

In Karagattam, sleeziness is rampant and there is recognition for it. But we don't have any recognition. Till now, we are living a life that is not permanent. We hope that our situation, which was in a state of destruction, will rise further with the verdict given now.

Our request is that the government should give recognition only to certain cultural troupes in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, the police should give permission to hold programmes only for certain groups. Many people are willing to pay money to performers.

But we are all below the poverty line and no one comes forward to give us good money or help us. “
