Nine district councillors competed for the election of five members of the district planning committee from rural local bodies. The election was attended by 17 district councillors, seven from the AIADMK and DMK, two from the BJP, and one from the KDMK.

Gopalasamy, who contested on a BJP ticket, won by a huge margin of 15 votes. Even if the AIADMK is an ally, the BJP could have secured only 9 votes – two for the BJP and seven for the AIADMK. But Gopalaswamy of the BJP won by a huge margin as five in the DMK and one in the KDMK voted.
Though the DMK and the BJP are rival parties, the DMK has voted and the BJP has won a landslide victory.
