Man arrested for storing sandalwood logs in house near Mavuthampathi

A man was apprehended by the police after he was found to be hiding around 25 kg of sandalwood logs in his house near Mavuthampathi in Coimbatore.



Coimbatore: The police arrested a man who was hiding around 25 kg of sandalwood logs in his residence near Mavuthampathi in Coimbatore and turned him over to the forest department.

Ponnusamy (50) is from Ayyakovil in Mavuthampathi, near Navakkarai in Coimbatore. Wage worker. The K G Chavadi police received a tip-off that sandalwood logs were hidden in his house.

Following this, the police kept a close eye on him and raided his home.

At that time, it was found that there were small pieces of sandalwood weighing about 25 kg inside.

In the first phase of the investigation, information was acquired from Kerala residents. The people of Chinnampathi adivasi village on the Walayar border collect small pieces of sandalwood from the forest area. It was found that he was selling it to Kerala and smuggling sandalwood logs for the past five months.

Following that, the police handed over Ponnusamy and sandalwood logs to the Madukkarai forest department. Officials from the Forest Department are also on the lookout for those responsible for the kidnapping.
