Tirupur: Farmer Jaganathan attempts to set himself on fire at the Palladam DSP's office. Jeganathan is the son of Aarusamy, a resident of Karadivavi near Palladam in Tirupur district. He cultivates his six acres of land with his family.

In 2016, he borrowed Rs 28 lakh from his friend Sivalingam, a DMK functionary from Tirupur, on the pretext of mortgaging his six-acre land and repaying it in 18 months.

Jeganathan tried to obtain a bank loan as he could not repay it in 18 months. Due to non-availability of loan from the bank, he took a loan of Rs 40 lakh from Balachandran, a native of Perumanallur, through a finance broker from Thudiyalur in Coimbatore and returned the mortgage deed to Sivalingam.

On the same day, Balachandran was given a purchase agreement. Jeganathan had been paying interest regularly on the loan he had taken from Balachandran. Jeganathan had repeatedly requested Balachandran to cancel the documents he had written to him, but Balachandran was reportedly delaying the cancellation of the document.

When Jeganathan became suspicious and displayed the encumbrance certificate, it was found that Balachandran had produced fake deeds and sold his six-acre land worth Rs 5 crore to Umarani and Kader Maitheen in 2020.

Umarani and Balachandran had sold the land to Murugesan and Vikram Kumar.

When Jeganathan Balachandran inquired about it, Murugesan stated that he would wait for some time and give a disapproval to Vikram Kumar.

If he questions Balachandran about it, he will threaten him with Sivakumar and many other ruling party supporters. He said that he secured a High Court order to survey the land without Jeganathan's knowledge and that Balachandran was trying to grab his land. On Thursday, Jeganathan and his family went to the Palladam DSP's office to file a complaint, requesting that his land be returned.

Jeganathan, who had come to file a complaint, poured kerosene all over himself and tried to set himself on fire.

The police officers and his relatives present in the DSP's office stopped Jeganathan and threw water on him, and saved him.

Palladam DSP Soumya said they are investigating Jeganathan's complaint and will take appropriate action on the complaint.
