It has been recently reported that the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation officials have been allegedly threatening small and marginal entrepreneurs with industry tax amidst the struggles of the entrepreneurs due to various impacts, including electricity bills.
Coimbatore: There are allegations among the entrepreneurs that the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation officials are now threatening the small and marginal entrepreneurs who are reeling under various impacts, including electricity bills, in the name of industry tax.

There are almost 15,000 micro firms in the Coimbatore corporation area. These industries provide livelihood for more than 1.5 lakh people. At this stage, these micro-industries have not been receiving job orders for the past few years.
Similarly, entrepreneurs have been alleging that small-scale industries have had to shut down due to a variety of factors ranging from GST to power hike. Officials from the Coimbatore Corporation have stated that they are persecuting more and more micro entrepreneurs in the guise of industry tax.

They petitioned Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Prathap on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Industries and Micro Entrepreneurs Association to revoke the industrial tax.
