Vehicles have not been able to go to Kerala as the quarry crusher owners in the area have gone on strike. This is due to the fact that a large quantity of mineral resources, such as Msand gravel, have been illegally smuggled out from Udumalpet in Tirupur district for a number of months now.
Tirupur: Vehicles weren't heading to Kerala because quarry crusher owners went on strike a few days ago, as a large quantity of mineral resources, especially Msand gravel, had been smuggled day and night from Udumalpet in Tirupur district over the past few months.
Following a tip that mineral resources were being smuggled back to Kerala, the lorry owners' association and the general public conducted an inspection at the udumalpet central bus stand area at midnight.
More than ten trucks were stopped and detained for smuggling minerals into Kerala.
Later, the police arrived, and discussions are underway between the revenue department, the general public, and the lorry owners.
Lorry Owners' Association officials stated,
Every day, a large amount of road mineral resources are smuggled from Udumalpet. But it is not possible to indulge in such activities from Kerala. Despite repeated complaints to the authorities concerned, no action has been taken and therefore urged the District Collector to take immediate action against the officials who are supporting the smuggling.
More than 10 trucks carrying mineral resources from Udumalpet to Kerala have been taken into custody.
