For the past eight days, the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association has been staging a continuous hunger strike at Sulur, Senjerimalai Pacharpalayam in Coimbatore district to press for their 10-point charter of demands. This ongoing agitation has extended to 18 districts, with farmers engaging in a different kind of struggle every day to seek the attention of the government.
Coimbatore: The farmers, who have been protesting in 18 districts to fight for their 10-point charter of demands, opened a kanji tank and drank porridge on the eighth day of the protest.
For the past eight days, the Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association has been on a continuous hunger strike at Sulur, Senjerimalai Pacharpalayam in Coimbatore district to press for their 10-point charter of demands. In this ongoing agitation in 18 districts, every day they are engaged in a different kind of struggle and are attracting the attention of the government.
In the continuing protest at Pacharpalayam in Sencherimalai, farmers led by Coimbatore District Farmers Protection Association president Velu Mandirachalam opened the kanji tank, boiled the porridge, and consumed it.
They also raised slogans demanding immediate implementation of the 10-point charter of demands. More than 200 farmers participated in it.
