Coimbatore: A grandfather, who was on a two-wheeler carrying his two granddaughters from a school near Press Colony near Periyanaickenpalayam in Coimbatore, was hit by a speeding state-run bus.

The grandfather and one of the granddaughter got trapped under the bus and died tragically. Another is seriously injured granddaughter has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Abhinaya, a class 11 student of Thambu Higher Secondary School in Press Colony near Periyanayakanpalayam in Coimbatore, and Hemavarshini, a class 9 student, were brought to their house in Veerapandi division on his TVS 50 two-wheeler by their grandfather Ramasamy this evening.

They were about 100 metres away from the school when a state-run bus coming from Coimbatore to Mettupalayam collided head-on with them. Three persons, along with the two-wheeler, were trapped under the bus and seriously injured.

Those who were lying in a pool of blood were rescued by those nearby and admitted to a private hospital in Periyanaickenpalayam by an ambulance for treatment.

The three injured were rushed to a private hospital in Coimbatore for further treatment after doctors informed them that they were in a critical condition.
According to doctors, grandfather Ramasamy and granddaughter Abhinaya died on the way to check on them. Another granddaughter Hemavarsini has been admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment in a life-threatening condition.
