A man pretending to be a police sub-inspector was recently arrested by Thudiyalur police in Coimbatore for taking a bribe during a vehicle check and then threatening Vinodh. After Vinodh lodged a complaint with the Thudiyalur police station, the officers immediately launched an investigation into the incident. Upon further inspection, they caught the man in question and brought him to the station for interrogation.
Coimbatore: Vinodh, who runs a tailoring shop in Coimbatore's Sivananda Colony, was riding his two-wheeler near Thudiyalur when a youth dressed in pants and belts, like a police SI, stopped him and asked documents.
He then reviewed the paperwork and demanded Rs 500 even though everything was fine. Vinodh became sceptical of the SI and said that he had no money.
He then threatened Vinodh and left the SI. Following this, Vinodh lodged a complaint with thudiyalur police station in this regard.
Thudiyalur police, who were patrolling the area, apprehended the man who was checking similar vehicles from a distance and brought him to the police station for questioning.
The youth has been identified as Akash, a native of The Nilgiris district, who works in a private canteen. It was also found that he was dressed up as an SI and was checking the vehicle and extorting money from him.
Following this, the police registered a complaint against him, arrested him, took him to court, and lodged him in Coimbatore Central Jail.
