Icons of Coimbatore award presented to deserving Coimbatorians by Rathinam Group of Institutions


Coimbatore is known across the globe for its spirit of entrepreneurship. This city has in the past and presently too continues to produce entrepreneurs who have made a mark for themselves in various fields. This vibrant city of namma Coimbatore has also produced several individuals who have put Coimbatore on the international map of recognition by making a contribution towards the society and to our city. In a bid to recognize the efforts of such men and women who continue to work towards giving back to our city, city-based Rathinam Group of Institutions introduced what they call ‘Icons of Coimbatore’ awards in various categories. Today the 2017 edition of Icons of Coimbatore award ceremony was hosted. Coincidently, this year, all awardees are men.



Rathinam College of Technology played perfect host to 'Icons of Coimbatore 2017' an event to formally honour citizens of Coimbatore who have contributed to the city through their fields of expertise. A source from this group shares with SimpliCity that this is for the fourth time that Rathinam Group of Institutions is honouring the citizens of Coimbatore through their 'Icons of Coimbatore' award. 



Dr. Pinky Anand, who serves as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India at the Supreme Court of India. and Krishnachandar, Vice President of Art of Living, Tamil Nadu were the Chief Guest for this award ceremony.



Dr. Madhan A Senthil Chairman, Rathinam Group welcomed the gathering and remarked that City of Coimbatore is the one of the enterprising city in India. In his address to the audience he said “People of Coimbatore are noted for their social responsibility and no wonder this city has so many NGOs who work selflessly towards empowering this city. Such continued efforts will definitely take this city places.”



“We at Rathinam Institutions have been contributing towards socially responsible projects in a plethora of diversified sections. Rathinam Institutions is also one of the Incubation Centres, and we take pride in mentoring and nurturing start-ups. The number of start ups that this entrepreneurship city has produced, speaks volumes of the potential of this city. I am happy to share that Rathinam Group is also home to several trees that were originally planted on the Pollachi Road. Due to road expansion activities, the trees were uprooted from their original place and our group joined hands with city-based NGOs and re-planted these trees in our campus. Today, we continue to enjoy the fruits of labour in the form of four trees.” he said. 



This was followed by one of the awardees Vasanth Magician who enthralled the crowd with his magic tricks. He turned a ten rupee note to a 2000 rupee note and the audience watched in awe.

Another recipient of the Icons of Coimbatore award, Soundarajan, Chairman of Suguna group of Industries told his audience that his brother along with him started the company with an initial investment of just 5000 rupees and now this company has a turn–over of 6000 crores annually. “He said hard work, perseverance and discipline is the success mantra. As entrepreneurs grow it is their responsibility and duty to give back to the society and they should help in empowering the society. We are proud that our journey that started today from Coimbatore has made us the 9th biggest Chicken Poultry farm in the world.”













Social entrepreneur, Padmashri A Muruganantham, B Soundarajan, Chairman, Suguna Holdings Pvt Ltd, S Ksndsvelan, Founder, Aatma Arakatalai, K Murali, Director, Deaf Leaders Foundation, Karthick Narenn, Director Dhurvangal 16, Tasleema Naseeren, Transgender activist, Yuvaraj, Director Truck Taxi, Dr. V G Mohan Prasad, VGM Gastro Care Centre, Xaviour Selvakumar, Reporter, Dinamalar, National award winner, S A C Vasanth, India’s leading magician, N Vivekandar, athlete, M Chandrakumar, Novelist and D Andrew Sam, Founder of SimpliCity app were recognized with the ‘Icon of Coimbatore’ Award today.



This event was hosted by Rathinam Group of Institutions in partnership with Radio City 91.1 FM and Times of India.
