If the price of coconut is not fixed, there will be a coconut breaking protest in front of the secretariat - Non-Party aligned Farmers Association

The non-party Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association staged a coconut-breaking protest at Putharachal near Palladam demanding remunerative price for coconuts. If the Tamil Nadu government does not fix the right price for coconuts immediately, all the farmers' unions will come together and stage a coconut breaking protest in front of the secretariat.

Tirupur: The non-party Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association has announced that they will stage a coconut breaking protest in front of the Secretariat if the price of coconut is not fixed.

Non-party farmers' unions staged a protest at Putharachal near Palladam in Tirupur district, alleging that the purchase of coconuts for Rs 5 was affecting their livelihood.

Prior to the protest, they took out a procession from the Buddharachal Easwaran temple carrying coconuts in their hands and broke the coconut on the Palladam-Dharapuram road and staged a protest.

Coconut should be purchased at a higher price. Steps should be taken to sell coconut oil in lieu of palm oil in fair price shops. The 35-year-old ban on the import of s should be lifted and permission should be granted to toddy.

They also demanded that the state government should take action on the lines of the central government's order to procure copra coconuts at Rs 106.

The farmers said the Tamil Nadu government should fix the procurement price of coconuts. In ration shops, coconut oil should be sold instead of palm oil. The Government of Tamil Nadu should give permission to toddy.

Also, if the price of coconuts is not fixed, all the party farmers will be mobilised and a coconut breaking protest will be held in front of the Chennai secretariat.
