The first week of August is observed as World Breastfeeding Week. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan flagged off a rally in coimbatore in which doctors, nurses and college students participated to create awareness about breastfeeding.
Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner K Balakrishnan flagged off an awareness rally in Coimbatore on the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week.
World Breastfeeding Week is observed from August 1 to 7. Nurses, college students and doctors took out an awareness rally on breastfeeding from the tower on Race Road to Masani Hospital.
Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan flagged off the rally.
Speaking at a press conference later, Commissioner Balakrishnan said,
Awareness is being created in such a way that mothers can realise the importance of breastfeeding in the first week of August. Breast milk is very helpful in developing immunity in the baby's body. Students and nurses of Masani Hospital and Inner Wheel Club College participated in the rally.
An awareness rally was held to highlight the importance of breastfeeding. The rally has been organised in such a way that mothers who can donate to children in need of breast milk can create awareness among them.
The hospital provides air conditioning facilities to ensure that the breast milk does not get spoiled. Facilities have been provided for lactation in Coimbatore city. An awareness programme will also be conducted at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore city, for those who are willing to donate breast milk to the mothers and women constables in the police force.
