Tirupur: Farmers of Virugalpatti Co-operative Credit Society near Udumalpet staged a protest alleging irregularities of more than Rs 50 lakh.
More than 50 farmers of Virugalpatti Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society near Udumalpet are alleged to have indulged in malpractices by not crediting them to their bank accounts even after receiving crop loans and repaying them.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Farmers Protection Association has repeatedly demanded action against the officials involved in the irregularities to the tune of Rs 50 lakh in the crop loans taken by the farmers.
In this situation, even after the investigation was completed a few months ago, the affected farmers were not given the due loan receipt and re-credit was not disbursed. More than 100 farmers staged a protest in front of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society.
The farmers said,
For the past eight months, the officials have been involved in irregularities of over Rs 50 lakh by not keeping the farmers in his bank account even after taking crop loans and paying them.
Therefore, the affected farmers should be given crop loan receipts immediately. Steps should be taken to re-lend otherwise the farmers will continue to protest. Thus they said.
