Thangabalu hails from Pattukottaiyar Nagar in Velliangadu, Tirupur. He owns shops which he has rented out. Two days ago, on the occasion of Sasikala's birthday, she had pasted a poster on his shop shutter wishing her on her birthday.

On Saturday night, more than 10 persons belonging to the Hindu Munnani barged into Thangabalu's house. They also attacked Thangabalu with sharp weapons and a cricket bat, causing serious injuries and fled from the spot.
Thanga Balu, who was seriously injured in the incident, is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital. A case has been registered against both the parties at Tirupur South police station in this regard and the police are investigating.
More than 50 members of the Thevar amaipu submitted a petition to the city police commissioner's office in support of Thangabalu, who was seriously injured.
They demanded a ban on the Hindu Munnani organisation and action should be taken against the goons who carried out the attack.
