Plea to create a new railway division for Coimbatore with Podanur as HQ raised with MoS Railways in Coimbatore

Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA had organised this meeting on Thursday and Office bearers of Kongu Global Forum, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Codissia, Federation of Trade Associations of Coimbatore, Gujarathi Samaj, RAAC, Siruthuli, Welfare Association of Rail Passengers, and Coimbatore District Rail Passengers Associations presented the memorandums.


Coimbatore: The railway users Associations of Coimbatore met Darshana Jardosh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Railways, New Delhi in Coimbatore North Railway station on Thursday.



Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA had organised this meeting on Thursday and Office bearers of Kongu Global Forum, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Codissia, Federation of Trade Associations of Coimbatore, Gujarathi Samaj, RAAC, Siruthuli, Welfare Association of Rail Passengers, Coimbatore District Rail Passengers Associations and a few more bodies prepated a memorandum with the demands of Rail Passengers and handed it over to the Hon MoS.

Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Boopathi Raja, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem, C. Balasubramanian, K. Jayaraj ZRUCC members, R.S. Shanmugham DRUCC member, Vasudeva Bhagat, Rajesh Govindarajulu, Soundarajan, Anbunidhi Mahalingam, Station Consultative Committee members, Coimbatore Junction were present.

”MoS assured us that the demands will be categorized and prioritized for implementation in consultation with the Stake holders at the earliest possible time.

P. R. Natrajan, Member of Parliament, Coimbatore had met Hon MoS Railways and presented the list of demands for Coimbatore.

Major demands from Coimbatore.

1. Vande bharat express to Bangalore and Chennai in the afternoon.

2. Coimbatore to Tiruchendur Vetrivel Express via Palani, Madurai and Tirunelveli.

3. Restoration of 100 year old trains to Rameswaram, Thoothukudi and Sengottai.

4. Stoppage of Kovai and Intercity express in North Coimbatore and one more platform.

5. Railway board must sanction the proposal to build train Maintainence facilities in Podanur, only then new trains can be launched. The existing one in Coimbatore is used more than its capacity.

6. Coimbatore Circular train service and Pollachi to Coimbatore MEMU train service.

7. Coimbatore/ Chennai/ Coimbatore Intercity Express should be named as Noyyal Express.

8. In practice with renamings stations in Railways, Podanur shall be renamed as Coimbatore South and Irugur as Coimbatore East.

9. Chemmozhi Express shall be extended until Nagappattinam which will help passengers to go to Tirunallar, Nagore and Velankanni.

10. Uday Express to Bangalore should be rerouted via Hosur and 10 more 2S coaches should be added to this train.

11. Kinathukkadavu to Pollachi section must be reconstituted to Salem division.

12. Coimbatore must be declared as a headquarters for a new division and it must be located in Podanur.”
