Coimbatore: In response to a directive from the Coimbatore district administration, bathing in certain water bodies within the Valparai region has been prohibited to ensure the safety of tourists and travelers. The move comes after several tragic incidents involving tourists losing their lives in these waters.
The decision was prompted by a recent incident in which five students from Coimbatore drowned in a river near Valparai two days ago followed by a government school teacher from Kottur drowning yesterday. Following the incident, District Collector Krantikumar ordered the immediate restriction of bathing at twenty specific locations within Valparai.
Tourists have been ignoring safety warnings and swimming in these areas, leading to a significant loss of life. In light of this, the Coimbatore district administration has taken measures to prevent further accidents.
In a notice issued by Collector Kozhi Kadai Ganesh, it was stated, "To prevent tourists from bathing in these dangerous waters, bathing has been banned at 20 locations within Valparai, where swimming has led to unfortunate fatalities."
