Coimbatore: Velliangiri Uzhavan Farmer Producer Company Ltd., the FPO mentored by Isha Outreach, Velliangiri Uzhavan FPO achieved revenues from operations at INR 14.72 crores. The performance of the company was announced during the 10th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of Members at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore on October 30 (Monday).
Velliangiri Uzhavan FPO achieved income by aggregating services for farmers from multiple streams - Green Coconut, Husk, Vegetables, Farm Input shop, Outlet shop, Transport, Drip Irrigation, value-added products like Coconut oil. For the year, the company sold 1.02 crores of nuts, 156 metric tonnes of vegetables, and 10.4 MT of Coconut oil from the farmers' produce.
Velliangiri Uzhavan Farmer Producer Company, the maiden FPO supported by Isha Outreach, commenced during 2013 in the Thondamuthur block of Coimbatore district under Sadhguru’s guidance. The FPO has a total of 1,063 farmer members, of which 404 are women farmer members and 776 small & marginal farmers, covering cultivable land of 5859 acres.
The company has received various awards in the past from the central and state governments for its outstanding performance. VUPC was recognized for excellence in 'Membership engagement' by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in the CII - FPO Excellence Awards function in New Delhi in October 2023.
Speaking about the company's operations and future roadmap, Chairman Kumar highlighted:
• A soil testing lab being established by Isha Outreach for the improvement of soil health worth Rs 1 crore.
• A crop disease identification and growth development software are being developed.
• Fair trade certification is under process.
Velliangiri FPO is a model FPO and is an inspiration for 24 other FPOs facilitated by Isha Outreach under the 10,000 FPO formation and promotion of the central sector scheme.
Isha Outreach is empaneled to facilitate 24 FPOs in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
