According to the official announcement, the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj has declared the National Panchayat Awards for 2025, selecting 42 panchayats that demonstrated outstanding performance during the assessment year 2023-24. Among these, Coimbatore District Panchayat has secured the third position at the national level under the prestigious 'Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar' category.
The top honors in this category went to Sepahijala District Panchayat from Tripura, which claimed the first position, followed by Ganjam District Panchayat from Odisha in second place. Coimbatore's achievement places Tamil Nadu prominently on the national map for exemplary local governance.
Dr. Behera explained that these awards are conferred upon local bodies that have excelled in implementing nine key objectives, including poverty alleviation, water management, and best administrative practices.
