The Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) members have made a significant request to Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh. They are advocating for the extension of the Coimbatore-Dindigul special train service until November 26. This service, initially launched on November 11 to accommodate the Deepavali rush, was slated to conclude on November 15.
ZRUCC members C Balasubramanian and K. Jayaraj, in a collective appeal, emphasized the importance of this extension. The Coimbatore-Dindigul-Coimbatore Festival Special Express (06077/06078) is seen as crucial for facilitating devotees attending the ongoing Kanda Shasti festival at the Palani Murugan Temple. This festival, which began on Tuesday, will continue until November 19, with significant events like Soorasamharam and Karthigai Dheepam extending till November 26.
Furthermore, the extension of this train service is expected to benefit those visiting the Maruthamalai Murugan Temple. Coinciding with this request, the ghat road leading to Marudhamalai Temple has been reopened for vehicular traffic, following a month-long closure for renovation. The 2.2 km stretch, last serviced in 2001, underwent maintenance starting October 5, involving a 3.65 crore investment for a new road and expanded parking facilities. Additional amenities like toilets and a tonsuring place have also been developed, with 80% of the work now complete.
The upgraded parking space near the temple can accommodate approximately 100 cars and 100 bikes, indicating readiness for increased visitor traffic. The ZRUCC's proposal reflects a broader effort to enhance religious tourism and ensure devotee convenience during significant festivals in Tamil Nadu.
